Barista
The Barista is responsible for creating high-quality coffee beverages and providing excellent customer service. The role involves preparing various coffee-based drinks, maintaining and cleaning barista equipment, and delivering quick and efficient service, especially during peak hours. The Barista is also expected to engage with customers, providing recommendations and ensuring a welcoming café environment.
Key responsibilities:
Prepare Beverages:
Craft and prepare espresso-based drinks as per menu.
Strictly comply with Plato standards and procedures, including following all training protocols and Plato recipes accurately.
Always maintain consistency in taste and presentation.
Follow daily opening and closing procedures to ensure smooth and consistent operations.
Customer Service:
Engage warmly with customers, offering beverage recommendations based on their preferences and getting to know regular customers names and orders.
Handle customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly with professionalism.
Take orders from the different point of sale systems.
Assist all team members – waiters, kitchen staff, fellow baristas to ensure quick and efficient service during busy periods, maintaining quality.
Upselling of menu items and extras in a natural, customer-focused way.
Maintain Coffee Equipment:
Clean and maintain espresso machine, grinders, and other equipment daily.
Ensure equipment is in proper working order, reporting any technical issues immediately.
Product Knowledge:
Stay informed about the origins, roasting processes, and flavour profiles of the coffee beans used.
Know menu by heart, allowing you to make tailored suggestions to customers with confidence.
Continuously expand knowledge of coffee-making techniques and trends.
Inventory and Supplies:
Monitor stock levels of coffee, milk, and all other ingredients in the barista section.
Participate in weekly stock taking and help maintain proper inventory levels and organisation.
Assist in ordering and restocking barista station supplies as needed.
Inform management in advance if items are running low.
Adhere to Health and Safety Standards:
Follow hygiene and cleanliness guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Comply with all health and safety regulations, including food safety standards.
General Duties
Uphold high standards of personal hygiene and adhere to the Clubhouse uniform code.
Keep dining area and coffee area exceptionally clean and organised.
Follow safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe dining environment.
Stay informed about daily specials, promotions, or menu changes.
Skills:
Proficiency in espresso machine operation and coffee preparation techniques.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask and handle busy shifts efficiently.
Strong attention to detail in beverage preparation and presentation.
Qualification/s:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
1 -2 years of experience as a barista or in a similar role is preferred.
Familiarity with various coffee brewing methods.
Experience with latte art.
Knowledge of coffee bean varieties and their flavour profiles.
